Letter of
Thanks from France
2004
Dear Dr. Joson,
I am Mrs. Agno (pseudoname), residing in France with my French husband and two
children. My son's 13 years old while my daughter's 3.
My son is not yet circumcised (his father is a Filipino) and I've been thinking
of having it done. It's just that here in France circumcision is not being done
in public hospitals telling us it's no longer legal. So we contacted a private
one and we were told that they do practise it there. But I don't know why, deep
inside me, I'm against it. Perhaps the fact that it hurts and I don't want my
son to 'suffer'. It's just that my parents (who are in the Phils.) keep on
asking me if he's already 'tule', telling me "it's about time",
things like... "you don't want him to be teased or to be called supot
someday!". And that pushed me to start contacting hospitals.
But after visiting websites regarding circumcision (including yours) I've
learned that it's not really necessary and the complications really scared me.
You made me make the right decision, Doctor Joson. My son's not gonna go thru
any surgery that I might regret for the rest of my life. I talked to him, I told
him that I am letting him decide for himself (he's not really into it, anyway),
it's his body so it's his decision. And now he's happy, I
and my husband are, too.
Thanks very very much.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Agno
